Zsa Zsa
(1997 - 2010)
In 2006 we purchased our first Great Pyrenees pup from Doris Uphoff.  In just a few short weeks we realized that we had a predator  problem, and while we hadn't lost any goats ... yet.... it was just a matter of time.  So we ordered another pup... still concerned as our first pup Tulla was only 6 mos. old and trying to guard... we spoke again with Doris, and worked out a deal to bring Zsa Zsa home with Emma (our second pup).

The first time Mark saw Zsa Zsa asleep on the floor in the Uphoff's home.  His immediate reaction was to whisper to me...  "Oh man... don't wake it up."  She was the largest dog he'd ever seen.  She turned into Mark's beloved Zsa Zsie.

Zsa Zsa was the best decision we ever made with our young dogs.  She taught them how to guard... she taught them that hawks, owls and eagles are not to be trusted.  She taught them that raccoons, possums, skunks, snakes, coyotes, and stray dogs fall into the NO Tolerance Zone.  She taught them that the goats are the number 1 concern in the life of a good LGD.  She taught them that strangers really shouldn't come over the fence... they can come thru the gate with mom or they don't need in the pasture/corral at all.

Zsa Zsa has bloodlines in our dogs thru her daughter Emma Lou and two males that we have retained.  Fozzie (2 years old) and Bart, who was born just a few weeks before Zsa Zsa passed away.  Emma and Fozzie have proven themselves as noteworthy decendants of this incredible Great Pyrenees.
On March 4, 2010 Zsa Zsa quietly passed away, in my arms.  We will truly miss her undeniable presence here on the farm.

Zsa Zsa loved a good hole to lie in.  Mark had climbed down into one of her "earth shelters" to see how deep it was.  Zsa Zsa then climbed over and layed in his lap.
